Biography

Will Korn
Welcome to my personal website! My name is Will Korn. I was born in San Antonio, Texas but in my lifetime I have moved to a few different areas around the state.  I spent most of my life living in DFW and so I usually refer to north Texas as my true home.

One of the most interesting things that most people are skeptical to believe about me, is that I am an adopted only child.  However, it is one of the things about myself that I am most proud of.

My main interest is in sports journalism and broadcast, but things haven't always been this way.  When I started my educational career at The University of Texas at Austin in the Fall of 2010, my number one goal was to be an orthodontist.  Calculus didn't work out too well for me and so I decided to abandon this goal.

Next up for me was a degree in history.  I greatly enjoyed the classes I was taking and the study of history in general, but I stumbled upon one critical realization about three months into my journey as a history major - basically it was either teach in high school to start, or go to law school.  Neither of these options appealed to me, and so about ten months ago I finally settled into my current home in UT's College of Communication as a journalism major.

Although I haven't been in journalism for too long, I have had the opportunity to learn about many different facets of a journalist's work in a hands-on manner.  I have conducted professional interviews with a variety of public sports and news figures in and around Austin, Texas.  These have included  UT Head Baseball Coach Augie Garrido, UT Head Volleyball Coach Jerrit Elliot, and KEYE's Cheif Meteorologist Troy Kimmel.

Additionally, I am an active volunteer at TSTV (Texas Student Television), where I have experience in sideline reporting, and editing/producing game highlights and news packages.   I have also made appearances on College Crossfire, a 30-minute live sports debate show, and this has been highly enjoyable to me.  Finally, I am a DJ as UT's own on-campus radio station, KVRX Radio.  I am in the process of starting a live sports talk show next semester.

Through my time in journalism at UT, I have both honed existing skills as well as develop new ones that are vital to success in my field.  In addition to proficiency in Microsoft Office software, I have gained a proficiency in film/video editing software such as FinalCut Pro, sound editing software such as Audacity, and alternative presentation software such as SoundSlides.  I also have experience in Adobe Photoshop.

My ultimate dream is to one day be a sports reporter or anchor for ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut or Los Angeles, California.  I always tell people that this is something I hope happens before I die.  Despite what is a pretty lofty goal at first glance, I have a plan that I am working on to get myself there. Right now, I am continuing my work at TSTV and next semester I plan to begin to write for the Daily Texan, a daily student-produced newspaper on UT's campus.  This summer I am planning on interning at KABB/Fox 29 in San Antonio, Texas.   From there, I anticipate it being a mix of hard work, determination and initiative.

I have a number of hobbies and interests.  Most notable among these forms the basis of my career selection - sports. I LOVE talking about, watching, listening, ANYTHING that has to do with sports....it is just a part of who I am.  Although I am technically from San Antonio, I am VERY proud to say that I am a fanatic of all the dallas sports teams - the Rangers, Mavs, Stars, and Cowboys.  Of course, I am also a true Texas Longhorn fan, born and raised.

I also enjoy sketching in my free time.  This was one of my favorite things to do as a kid, and although I don't sketch as much as I used to, it is something I would like to return to if I ever have time as a journalist.  Spending time with family and friends is something very dear to me, although I am aware that I won't have much time to do this as a journalist either. It's a busy, busy life ahead of me!
